The School of Design for The Performing Arts was founded in 2003 with the aim of encouraging students to achieve authentic and personal self-expression. Training programs were primarily based on Master Classes and employed Apprenticeship/Mentoring methods that have been, and still are in use throughout the history of art.  The studies included workshops and projects led by professionals and renowned artists such as Ohad Naharin, David Grossman, Inbal Pinto, Penny Yasur, Philip Rantzer, Atay Citron and yehuda Eder, and all projects ultimately ended up on-stage, in front of real audience.

The school had been cooperating with Theater and Dance Companies and the Israeli Opera. Among the cooperating companies were Tmu'na Theatre, Vertigo Dance Company, Kamea Dance Company, Synapsa Ensemble, Beta dance Troupe, Theatre Company Jerusalem, The Dream Theatre, Nadneda Theatre and Adama Dance Company. The school cooperated with other schools such as Ilanit Tadmor's 'Play' Dance Studio, Gil Bechar's 'BodyWays' theater studio, Tel Aviv University Theatre School (Faculty of Arts), and 'Rimon' School of Music led by Yehuda Eder.

Many of the students' projects included performances in Art Festivals throughout Israel, among them were Tel Aviv's 'White City Nights', Holon's Woman Festival, Bat-Yam Street Theatre festival, Acre's International Fringe Theatre Festival, as well as performing in the Israeli Opera House and in museums and exhibitions.

The School of Design operated for ten years until Rakefet's relocation to the Galilee region in northern Israel.
